1996 Vintage Barbie Doll Pretty Choices Review

I love modern Barbie dolls, but the older dolls have their own unmistakable charm—the hairstyles, sweet faces, colourful fashions, and wonderfully nostalgic presentation immediately tell you that they belong to another Barbie era. Vintage Barbie Pretty Choices Doll is exactly the kind of doll that makes me want to slow down and admire all those little details. She is pretty, feminine, nostalgic, and such a lovely reminder of just how much Barbie fashion has changed throughout the years.

My First Impression Of Pretty Choices Barbie

Pretty Choices Barbie has that wonderfully cheerful vintage Barbie appearance that I find so endearing.

Whenever I add an older Barbie to my collection, one of the first things I notice is how different she feels beside my newer dolls. It isn’t necessarily that one era is prettier than another—they simply have their own personalities.

Pretty Choices Barbie looks like she belongs exactly in her time.

Her face, hair, fashion, and overall presentation come together to create a doll that feels wonderfully nostalgic. I wouldn’t want to modernise away all of those details because they are part of what makes her interesting to collect.

And, of course, the moment I see a pretty Barbie, I immediately begin imagining her inside my dollhouse!

Her Pretty Vintage Barbie Face

I really enjoy looking closely at the faces of my dolls because Barbie’s appearance has changed so much throughout her history.

Vintage dolls can have such distinctive makeup and expressions, and Pretty Choices Barbie has the sweet, polished appearance that I associate with Barbie dolls from her era. Her face gives her plenty of personality without needing anything elaborate.

She is also lovely for doll photography.

I could imagine taking close-up photographs that focus on her face and hair before moving out to photograph her complete fashion. Those little portrait-style photographs are sometimes my favourites because you can really appreciate the differences between each doll.

Her Hair

Hair is always important to me when choosing a doll.

A Barbie can be wearing the prettiest outfit imaginable, but I am still going to be looking at her hair!

Pretty Choices Barbie has that beautifully styled vintage look that helps give her so much of her personality. I love seeing how Barbie hairstyles have changed over the decades because they are almost like miniature records of the beauty trends happening at the time.

I would be tempted to play with her hair a little, but with a vintage doll I tend to appreciate keeping some of the original styling intact. There is something special about allowing an older Barbie to continue looking like the Barbie she was originally designed to be.

The Pretty Choices Fashion

Naturally, the fashion is one of my favourite parts.

Since I love sewing and crocheting clothes for fashion dolls, I can’t look at Barbie clothing without studying how everything has been put together. I’m looking at the shape, colours, proportions, little details and how the clothing sits on the doll.

Vintage Barbie fashions are especially interesting because they can provide so much inspiration for new handmade doll clothes.

Sometimes I don’t necessarily want to reproduce a vintage Barbie outfit exactly. Instead, I might notice one little detail and use it as inspiration for something completely different.

A neckline might inspire a blouse. A skirt might give me an idea for a new sewing pattern. A colour combination might inspire an entire collection of tiny clothes.

That is one of the unexpected things I love about doll collecting—it constantly feeds into my other creative hobbies.

The Fun Of Having Fashion Choices

I particularly love the idea of a Barbie centred around fashion choices because changing doll clothes is such a big part of collecting for me.

I don’t really see my dolls as having only one outfit.

Once a Barbie joins my collection, I immediately start imagining all the different versions of her. She might be dressed casually one day, wear a tiny handmade blouse another day, and suddenly appear in an elaborate evening gown for a completely different photoshoot.

That ability to transform a doll with clothing is one of the reasons fashion dolls remain so much fun.

It also means that even when I have several Barbie dolls, they never really feel repetitive. Each one becomes another tiny model for sewing patterns, crochet designs and all the miniature fashions I want to create.

How I Would Style Pretty Choices Barbie

I would definitely want to photograph Pretty Choices Barbie in her original look before changing anything.

After that, though, I would have fun!

I would love to see her in a handmade blouse with a tiny gathered skirt, a floral dress, a little crochet top, or perhaps something completely romantic with tulle and miniature flowers.

I would also love to make her a vintage-inspired outfit rather than putting her into something extremely modern. That way, I could create something new while still keeping a little of her original personality.

A tiny puff-sleeve blouse would be adorable. So would a gingham dress, a floral skirt, or a miniature evening gown.

The possibilities are endless when your dolls have their own growing wardrobe.

Pretty Choices Barbie In My Dollhouse

I think this doll would look particularly sweet displayed inside a dollhouse rather than simply standing on a shelf.

I can picture her in a little bedroom with floral wallpaper, a tiny wardrobe filled with clothes, a miniature dressing table, and perhaps a handmade quilt folded across the bed.

I would love to photograph her standing in front of an open wardrobe deciding what she is going to wear.

That is where my love of dolls and my love of dollhouses really come together. The doll gives the miniature room a character, while the room gives the doll a tiny world of her own.

Suddenly, I’m not simply photographing a Barbie. I’m creating a little scene.

Collecting Vintage Barbie Dolls

One thing I am beginning to appreciate more and more is just how enormous the Barbie world really is.

There are so many dolls from previous decades that I haven’t discovered yet. Some are glamorous, some are wonderfully unusual, some have elaborate fashions, and others are simply charming examples of what Barbie looked like during a particular period.

That makes vintage Barbie collecting feel almost endless.

Pretty Choices Barbie is the type of doll I enjoy discovering because she doesn’t need to be one of the newest releases to be interesting. Her age is actually part of her appeal.

She represents another little piece of Barbie’s fashion history, and I love having dolls from different eras together in one collection.

My Final Thoughts On Vintage Barbie Pretty Choices Doll

Vintage Barbie Pretty Choices Doll is a charming doll for anyone who enjoys the nostalgic side of Barbie collecting. I love her sweet vintage appearance and, most of all, the creative possibilities that come with having another fashion doll to dress, photograph, display, and eventually introduce to my dollhouse.

That is becoming one of my favourite parts of collecting. I don’t simply see a doll and think about how she looks in the box. I start thinking about the little world I can create around her. I imagine new clothes, tiny rooms, miniature furniture, photography scenes, sewing projects, crochet pieces, and all the other creative ideas that seem to appear once a new doll arrives.

Pretty Choices Barbie is another lovely little piece of that world for me.
