Sequin Princess Fashion Doll Dress – Free PDF Sewing Pattern & Tutorial

A sweep of sparkling sequins from the fitted bodice to the full floor-length skirt gives this fashion doll dress its unmistakable princess look. The strapless neckline keeps the bodice beautifully simple, while the gathered waist opens into a dramatic skirt with plenty of volume and movement. I especially love the rich pink colour for this design—it feels glamorous, playful, and perfectly suited to a miniature princess wardrobe. This is the type of doll dress that can be styled for an imaginary royal ball, elegant party, formal celebration, or simply displayed as one of the prettiest pieces in your doll’s closet.

Fabric Used & Fabric Substitutions

This dress was made using pink sequin fabric, which creates all of that gorgeous sparkle without needing lots of additional embellishments. For doll clothing, I prefer decorative fabrics with smaller-scale details because they look more proportional on an 11-inch fashion doll. If you don’t have sequin fabric, try recreating the dress with glitter fabric, metallic fabric, satin, shimmer fabric, lightweight brocade, or sparkly tulle layered over a coordinating fabric. You can also completely change the mood of the gown through colour—blush pink, lavender, baby blue, rose gold, champagne, and gold would all be beautiful choices for this princess silhouette.

What Size Doll Is This For?

The pattern is designed for Barbie-size dolls and other fashion dolls measuring approximately 10.5″–11.5″ tall. Since fashion dolls can have different bust, waist, and hip measurements even when they are similar in height, fit the pieces against your particular doll while sewing and adjust them where necessary. Essential Sewing Supplies

For this project, you will need your sequin fabric or chosen substitute, the printed PDF sewing pattern, matching thread, fabric scissors, a hand-sewing needle, pins or sewing clips, measuring tape, and a small piece of Velcro for the back closure. A sewing machine is optional depending on how you prefer to construct miniature garments, as some areas of a fashion doll dress can be easier to control with small hand stitches. If you are sewing with sequins, work carefully around bulky areas and trim away any individual sequins that interfere with your seam allowance or make a seam difficult to stitch neatly.
