Crochet Ruffle Fashion Doll Hat – Free PDF Pattern & Tutorial

Lavender Ruffles With a Whimsical Twist

Big, bouncy ruffles turn this little lavender crochet hat into such a fun statement piece for a fashion doll wardrobe. The rounded crochet crown has a simple textured finish, while the dramatically curled brim creates soft waves all around the face. I love the slightly exaggerated proportions—the ruffles give the hat a playful, almost storybook-inspired look that is especially pretty paired with long doll hair and feminine dresses or blouses.

Fashion Doll Sizing

This Crochet Ruffle Fashion Doll Hat is designed to fit fashion dolls approximately 10.5” to 11.5” tall. Since head shapes and hair thickness can differ between dolls, try the hat on your doll while crocheting to check the fit. Your individual crochet tension can also make the finished hat slightly smaller or larger.

The tutorial includes a step-by-step guide to help you understand how the hat develops from the small starting ring into its fitted crown and wonderfully full ruffled brim.

Yarn, Hook & Amount Needed

This is a wonderfully small project that only requires approximately 10–20 yards of yarn, although the exact amount will depend on how full you make the ruffled edge. I used a pretty light lavender/purple yarn for the hat shown here. You can use worsted weight acrylic, cotton or a cotton-blend yarn together with a 2.5 mm crochet hook. The colour can easily be changed to coordinate with your doll’s wardrobe—soft pink, cream, baby blue and other pastel shades would all be lovely choices.

Make the Ruffles Your Own

One of my favourite details about this pattern is how easily you can change the personality of the finished hat by adjusting the final ruffled round. Fewer stitches will produce a softer, more relaxed wave, while adding more double crochets into each stitch creates the wonderfully exaggerated curls shown here. It is an easy little detail to experiment with when making several hats in different colours for your doll collection.
