Chic Denim & Floral Fashion Doll Dress – Free PDF Sewing Pattern & Tutorial

Soft florals meet classic dark denim in this chic little fashion doll dress, creating a look that feels pretty, casual, and polished all at once. The strapless pink floral bodice adds a delicate romantic touch, while the simple A-line denim skirt gives the dress a more structured everyday feel. I especially love the contrast between the feminine floral print and deep navy denim—it makes this an adorable doll outfit for casual outings, shopping days, afternoon dates, or simply displaying your doll in her miniature wardrobe.

Choosing Fabrics for This Doll Dress

For my version, I paired a lightweight pink floral woven fabric for the bodice with dark blue denim for the A-line skirt. When sewing doll clothes, lighter-weight denim is particularly useful because it is easier to fold, stitch, and shape at such a small scale. You can substitute the denim with lightweight chambray, cotton twill, cotton canvas, or another medium-weight woven fabric that holds the A-line shape nicely. The floral bodice can also be made from quilting cotton, poplin, cotton lawn, gingham, or other lightweight woven fabrics. Try mixing different prints and solid colours to create completely different versions from the same pattern.

Designed for Barbie-Size & Other Fashion Dolls

This sewing pattern is designed for Barbie-size and other fashion dolls approximately 10.5″–11.5″ tall. Because doll bodies can vary slightly in the bust, waist, and hip areas, fit the dress on your particular doll as you sew and make small adjustments when necessary. What You’ll Need at Your Sewing Table

This is a lovely small project that doesn’t require much fabric, making it perfect for using pretty scraps left over from larger sewing projects. You’ll need a small piece of lightweight denim or similar woven fabric for the skirt, a small piece of floral cotton for the bodice, coordinating sewing thread, fabric scissors, sewing pins or clips, a hand-sewing needle, and your sewing machine if you prefer machine stitching. You may also need a small piece of narrow Velcro or another doll-clothing closure for the back. An iron can also be helpful for pressing the tiny folds and hems neatly before stitching.

Create Your Own Colour Combination

One of the nicest things about this simple silhouette is how easily you can change its personality through fabric. Keep the floral bodice and experiment with pink, pale blue, white, black, green, or traditional blue denim skirts, or reverse the idea with a solid bodice and printed skirt. Tiny roses, ditsy florals, bows, gingham, polka dots, and miniature novelty prints all work beautifully at fashion-doll scale. You could even make several dresses from the same PDF pattern and give each one its own colour and fabric combination.
