Barbie Extra Doll #7 Review

I have such a soft spot for Barbie dolls that come with a little extra personality, and Barbie Extra Doll #7 certainly lives up to the name. The Barbie Extra collection is all about playful fashion, bold accessories, fun hairstyles, and dolls that aren’t afraid to wear something a little unexpected. Doll #7 caught my attention because she feels colourful, youthful, and wonderfully over-the-top in that very Barbie kind of way. As someone who loves dolls, dollhouses, tiny fashions, and creating clothes for my own collection, I always enjoy taking a closer look at dolls whose outfits have lots of little details to discover.

First Impressions Of Barbie Extra Doll #7

My first impression of Barbie Extra Doll #7 is that she is definitely not meant to quietly disappear into a doll collection. She has the fun, maximalist styling that made the Barbie Extra line so recognizable.

There is something especially enjoyable about dolls like this because they feel less like a basic fashion doll and more like a tiny character with her own wardrobe and personality. Even if you eventually change her clothes and style her differently, her original look gives you plenty of inspiration to start with.

I also love dolls that photograph well, and the Extra dolls are especially fun for doll photography because there are so many colours, textures, accessories, and tiny details to work with.

Her Face & Hair

One of my favourite parts of collecting Barbie dolls is looking at the differences between their faces, hair, makeup, and overall expressions. Even dolls from the same collection can have completely different personalities simply because of these little choices.

Barbie Extra Doll #7 has the polished, playful appearance that suits the Extra collection beautifully. Her styling feels young and fashionable without looking like an ordinary everyday Barbie. Her hair also adds another strong visual element to the doll and gives you plenty of possibilities if you enjoy restyling doll hair.

I personally love imagining how a doll might look outside of her original outfit too. Sometimes changing the hairstyle, adding a handmade blouse, or putting the doll into a completely different colour palette makes her feel like an entirely new doll.

The Outfit

Of course, an Extra doll needs an extra outfit!

The fashion is one of the main reasons I find this collection so much fun. Instead of relying on one simple dress or basic outfit, Barbie Extra dolls tend to mix different fashion ideas together. That makes the clothing especially interesting if, like me, you love sewing, crochet, fabric, fashion design, and experimenting with doll clothes.

I love studying little doll outfits for inspiration. A tiny sleeve shape, skirt, jacket, colour combination, fabric texture, or accessory can easily spark an idea for something completely different that I would like to make myself.

Barbie Extra Doll #7 has exactly that kind of playful fashion energy. Her look isn’t trying to be subtle. It is meant to be noticed, and I think that is part of the charm of the entire Extra collection.

All Those Little Accessories

The accessories are another fun part of this doll.

Tiny accessories can make such a difference when displaying or photographing Barbie dolls. They help turn a doll from simply being dressed into looking as though she has somewhere to go and her own little life happening inside the dollhouse.

I particularly enjoy accessories that I can mix and match with other dolls. One pair of shoes, a handbag, glasses, jewellery, or another tiny piece can end up appearing in several completely different doll looks.

This is also where collecting fashion dolls becomes wonderfully creative. You don’t necessarily have to keep everything exactly as it came in the box. Half of the fun is opening up the wardrobe and creating your own combinations.

Barbie Extra Doll #7 For Doll Photography

I think Barbie Extra Doll #7 is particularly suited to anyone who enjoys doll photography.

With a doll this colourful, I would have so much fun creating tiny scenes around her. She could be photographed inside a miniature bedroom, sitting in a little dressing room surrounded by clothes, standing beside a doll-size wardrobe, or having her own tiny fashion shoot.

I also think she would be adorable photographed in handmade clothing. I love the contrast of taking a very modern Barbie and dressing her in something completely different, especially a romantic little handmade blouse, crochet top, cottage-inspired dress, or miniature evening gown.

It is one of the reasons I enjoy having different types of Barbie dolls in my collection. Every doll becomes another little model for the clothes and scenes I want to create.

Would I Restyle Her?

Definitely!

Although I appreciate the original Barbie Extra look for exactly what it is, I would have a hard time leaving her in the same outfit forever. One of my favourite things about dolls is changing their clothing and seeing how completely different they can look.

I would love to try Barbie Extra Doll #7 in softer colours, handmade doll clothes, tiny crochet pieces, pretty dresses, and perhaps even a dramatic evening gown. I think putting such a bold doll into something unexpectedly delicate could create a beautiful transformation.

And then, of course, I would probably put her original clothes onto another Barbie just to see what happens!

My Thoughts On Barbie Extra Doll #7

Barbie Extra Doll #7 is a fun addition to the Barbie Extra collection and exactly the kind of doll that makes collecting feel playful. She has plenty of personality, lots of styling possibilities, and an outfit that can easily inspire even more doll fashion ideas.

For me, a doll becomes even more interesting when I can imagine all the things I could do with her after she comes out of the box. I want to change her clothes, photograph her, place her inside my dollhouse, make tiny outfits for her, and create completely new looks. Barbie Extra Doll #7 gives me plenty of possibilities for doing exactly that.

That is really what I love most about collecting dolls. They aren’t just pretty things sitting on a shelf. They give me another tiny world where I can play with fashion, sewing, crochet, decorating, photography, and all the little creative things I already love.
